Clash Detection: It’s not magic — it’s conVoid

conVoid is your go-to solution when it comes to creating, updating, tracking, exchanging and approving MEP openings. You probably knew that. But did you also know that conVoid packs a pretty powerful punch when it comes to clash detection? Well, it does.


And seriously: Why would you use third-party software for clash detection when you can do it with conVoid, right in your Revit project? conVoid is making it very easy for you, too: Its clash detection feature is neatly packaged in the very same user interface that you use to create openings.

Keep it simple: Clash Detection with conVoid


Simply click on "Create Void" in Revit and then switch from “Opening Mode” to “Clash Detection Mode”. It's really that simple. After this one click you are free to create a more refined clash rule with filters, if you wish.



Sorry, ARC — but we only need MEP with conVoid's Clash Detection


conVoid is clever. It knows about openings even when they haven't been cut into the actual architectural model. Wondering how? So did one participant in our webinar on clash detection — and Pelle joked and said it was "Magic". But seriously: It's not magic, it's just conVoid.



As soon as you create your openings with conVoid, conVoid knows and "remembers" the openings' geometry. When running clash detection afterwards, conVoid might detect a clash between an MEP element and, for example, a wall — but it will not produce a clash if there is an underlying opening that fits the MEP element within some measurement tolerance. Clever, right?

Clash Detection with conVoid: Export issues like you’re used to


When you use conVoid for clash detection you profit from the same functionality you have with the coordination of openings: BCF-export, etc. Good to know: When exporting a BCF file this file will automatically include view points inside the created issues as well as GUID information.


Room for improvement


We weren't born yesterday and we know that software products like conVoid are constantly being developed further and improved. Thanks to our customers we received some valuable feedback that might just make conVoid's clash detection even better in the future.


A list of clash markers and opening IDs in conVoid for Revit

One example: Clash markers and openings are, as of today, still in one list together. Presently, you can use fields to separate them. In the future there might be an option that provides even better visibility.
